Commencement Address

The last time that we met our facilitator sir Randy Gamboa, we are assigned to read the commencement address of Steve Jobs and write our reflection base on what we have understand in the commencement address of Steve Jobs. By the way, Steven Paul Jobs or Steve Jobs is the CEO or chief executive officer of Apple Computers and Pixar Animation. The Commencement address of Steve was held in the one of the finest universities in the world.

Connecting the dots

In this story, Steve Jobs share his story on how dropping out from school gives many changes in his life, and how these changes lead him to his success and be counted us one of the most riches and famous businessman in the world. Steve Jobs dropped out several times when his in college for the reasons that it didn’t interest him and he doesn’t see the value of it. So when he decided to dropped out from college which the school is almost expensive as Stanford, he decided to drop in a calligraphy class because it gives him interest to learn it, and it makes him happy.
With the help of the knowledge that he have in the calligraphy class when he is still in college, he apply it to the Macintosh computer which created by them in the apple company. The calligraphy class really gives big help and benefit to Steve Jobs because the Macintosh functions as what Steve Jobs really want.
In the first story of Steve Jobs trusting in our guts or in our self is one of the things that lead us to success and to our really desired task. And I must say that everything has a purpose, just what happens to Steve Jobs. We just all think that every mistakes will always be forever mistakes, but the truth is every mistakes has it purpose and those purpose helps has learn from our mistakes.
As a future technopreneur, I must consider mistakes as lesson in my life not a lost, because in every decision that we make has purpose for us to be grow more and then learn from it. Deciding in one thing is very important because our decision plays a big part in our life and it purpose affect our daily lives as years pass by and as we grow and grow.

About Love and Loss

Steve Jobs was so happy and proud of his self that he fined what he really love to do in life, and because of it Steve Jobs now is now counted as one of the world’s famous and successful businessman. Steve Jobs become rich man and be known in world also because of his friend Steve Wozniak, who is a co-founder of the Apple Computers. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started Apple Computers in their garage, but now because of their passions in what they really love to do and what interest them they have now their own company which cost almost $2 billion. And from an employee of three or four, now Steve Jobs has now 4000 employees working for him and for apple computers.
For me Steve Jobs is really right, finding what you really want to do and your passion in life is a good thing that you will do in your life. Finding what you really want to do in life is just like finding the person you really loves. If you really love that person, you will do everything to have her. In the case of Steve Jobs, he is truly devoted on his job, even though he has been fired from his own company. When the time that he got fired from apple computers, Steve Jobs didn’t use it as reason to give up but instead he put up another company named neXT then followed by the Pixar animation.
If I wear in the case of Steve Jobs, I will do the same thing like he does when he got fired from his own company he started. As a future technopreneur, finding what you really love to do give a big credit to a success of a technopreneur. Like Steve Jobs, I will do also my best to have back what I have lost and still do what I really love or want to do or what interest me, because with the help of this it will help me lead to my success and be like Steve Jobs who is counted as one of the most famous technopreneur and entrepreneur in the world.
Loving what you do is the best thing as technopreneur because if your truly devoted to your job or work you will not find it hard to finish and you will find it more interesting as years pass by and as you improve in what you do.

About Death

We all know that we will die soon and our life will end anytime. So let’s live our life to the fullest and do those things that you really love before we will be run out of time. There are some who waste their time doing some unnecessary things instead of valuing the moment when they’re still alive. Even though there some who doesn’t give importance to the life given by God still they will just knew it at the end when they were already going to die.
Steve Jobs is right that knowing or being aware that we will die anytime is the important thing in our life because we will be able to cherish give importance in the time, days, months, and years that pass by as we live in this world. It’s good to be aware about death because we will be able to think wisely on what we will do in our life and should be the right thing to be done. Follow what your heart tells you because following your heart gives you unforgettable moment. Follow Gods plans for you for only god knows your past present and future, follow God’s lead because God doesn’t leads us to a wrong path or into danger or harm. As Steve says (“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”).

Personality Traits

The Last time that we've met our facilitator sir Randy Gamboa in our subject IT elective 1 or TECHNOPRENEURSHIP, we were all shock when he said that we will having an examination in that day wherein all of us has no idea about the exam and not prepare or study a little about the slides that he discusses to us. But when Sir gave the instructions for the exam all of us get calm because the examinations just a personality traits test but it still considered as our prelim examination wherein it will gives us ideas on how we handle any situations or events base on our characteristics or personality, and base on how we deal with it. as expected in that test it still connected or inline in entrepreneurship and technopreneurship to know how we deal events and situations as entrepreneurs or technopreneur. The result of it is that we are all "somewhat entrepreneur" wherein all of us has the capability of a good entrepreneurial and technopreneurial skills inside of us but not yet developed totally. When our facilitator tell us the result of the exam which came out "somewhat Entrepreneur", I was quite confuse on the result because i have experience yet about business, but I was thinking that i should not get confused of the result because I might have the capability of an entrepreneur but still in process of developing the skills with the help of this subject technopreneurship for the reasons that it teaches us and gives us ideas to be a good entrepreneur or technopreneur someday and what really technopreneur are.

Personality traits:

Personality are defined as:
• Habitual patterns and qualities of behavior of any individual as expressed by physical and mental activities and attitudes; distinctive individual qualities of a person, considered collectively.

• The complex of qualities and characteristics seen as being distinctive to a group, nation, place, etc.

• The sum of such qualities seen as being capable of making, or likely to make, a favorable impression on other people.

• Informal personal attractiveness; engaging manner or qualities

Traits are defined as:

"A distinguishing quality or characteristic, as of personality." In other words, this means that personality traits are the distinguishing characteristics that make you "you." Personality traits are the unique set of characteristics and qualities that only you possess. While a lot of people might have similar personality traits, each person combines these traits in a different way, to create one unique, irreplaceable conglomeration of traits that make up their individual personality.

The Five Major Personality Traits

• Openness: Openness refers to how open you are to experiencing new things. Do you enjoy learning new ideas and concepts or are you frightened of change?

• Conscientiousness: Conscientiousness refers to how dedicated you are. When you say you are going to do something do you follow through? Do you have a strong work ethic?

• Extraversion: Extraversion asks how comfortable you are in the company of others? Do you prefer to be by yourself or in a crowd? Do you like to be the life of the party?

• Agreeableness: Do you try to get along with people or do you go out of your way to be contentious and start a fight?

• Neuroticism: How emotionally stable are you? Do you get upset over the little things, or do they roll off your back?

Personality traits are defined as person personality or person’s character. All people or human beings are made with different personalities or should i say uniqueness of personalities, because God created us with difference or with uniqueness though there some in common but totally we are different from each other and each one of the us has unique ability or capability that no one can do which makes him or her unique from others. Person’s personality increases or developed as years pass by because of how we deal or handle thing or situations in our life as we gain experience through communicating with others, get to know others and share some experiences from others that makes your personality grow more. Like an entrepreneur or technopreneur, in order to be successful, gain respect or be respect by your employees you should show the good characteristic of a good Technopreneur or entrepreneur because good personality leads to a your success.

Personality traits test is a test wherein it evaluates your characteristic or personality bases on some events and you how you handle those events.

Personality traits Test are consist of: IQ (Intelligence Quotient), EQ (Emotional Quotient), AQ (Adversity Quotient)

First is IQ or intelligence Quotient, as define by some sites, IQ Stands for Intelligence Quotient is a measure of relative intelligence determined by a standardized test? The first Intelligence test was created in 1905 by Alfred Binet and Théophile Simon to determine which French school children were too “slow” to benefit from regular instruction. Binet came up with the idea of mental age when he noticed that children are increasingly able to learn difficult concepts and perform difficult tasks as they get older. Most children reach the same level of complexity at about the same time, but some children are slower reaching those levels.
Mental Age/Chronological Age X 100 = Intelligence Quotient

As I’ve notice in this kind of test which is Intelligence test, it mostly focuses on intelligence of a person who calculates its intelligence to determine how intelligent they are in answering difficult questions. With the help of this kind of test, we may able to know if our knowledge is not enough or far enough to pass.

IQ or Intelligence quotient is one factor to be a successful person but it is not the most important or most needed test to know for your success. Intelligence quotient test evaluates intelligence of an individual person. It does not evaluate emotional intelligence because it mostly focused to your knowledge you have.

In some universities, in order to study in that university you must first took IQ test before you can be enrolled in the particular to know if you've pass the qualifications or standards of that particular school. In this type of exam you will know if you’re successfully pass the test and be a student in that school and with the help of this you may also able to distinguish your Intelligence or knowledge.

Second is EQ or Emotional Quotient. In the early 1990s, Dr. John Mayer, Ph.D., and Dr. Peter Salovey, Ph.D., introduced the term "emotional intelligence" in the Journal of Personality Assessment. They used this term to describe a person's ability to understand his or her own emotions and the emotions of others and to act appropriately based on this understanding. Then in 1995, psychologist Daniel Goleman popularized this term with his book Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ.
EQ actually stands for Emotional Intelligence Quotient. Much like an intelligence quotient, or IQ, an EQ is said to be a measure of a person’s emotional Intelligence. However, there is much debate surrounding the legitimacy of a definition of emotional intelligence quotient, primarily because there is no standard against which it can be measured.

REFERENCE: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-an-emotional-quotient-eq.htm

Emotional Quotient test is a type of test which mostly focuses on person’s emotions for some events and situations which letting them assume that they are currently in that situation or events which identify their intelligence on how they cope up their self in that kind of situation or events. in addition to this, emotional quotient for me is more important than IQ test or Intelligence quotient test as technopreneur because having the high Intelligence but can’t handle emotional events and situations. Emotions really affect ones personality, so you should know to deal or understand your emotions in order to handle things that affect your entire life.
Emotional quotient test is a type of test wherein it gives possible situations or scenario of a person and then you’ll just answer it by rating it on how you agree in that given situations. In addition, EQ is a type of test which pertaining to your emotional intelligence to cope in your emotional problems that affect your personality.

And the last is AQ or Adversity Quotient. Adversity Quotient is rooted in three sciences: psychoneuroimmunology, neurophysiology, and cognitive psychology. They are its building blocks. Hundreds of research studies lend support to the role AQ plays in determining one’s ability to triumph over obstacles.

To measure AQ, Stoltz developed an assessment instrument called Adversity Response Profile (ARP).

The Adversity Response Profile is the only scientifically-grounded tool in existence for measuring how effectively one deals with adversity, or one’s AQ. AQ, according to him, is a valid predictor of one’s success, stress-threshold, performance, risk-taking, capacity for change, productivity, perseverance, improvement, energy, and health.

The ARP is a highly valid assessment instrument based on 25 years of research and 1000+ studies at more than 150 universities and organizations worldwide. Unlike IQ, AQ can be improved!

AQ scores fall into 3 broad bands, with an expected normal distribution.

Low (0-59) AQ characteristics:
• Low levels of motivation, energy, performance, and persistence.
• Tendency to ‘catastrophize’ events.

Moderate (95-134) AQ characteristics:
• Under utilization of potential.
• Problems take a significant and unnecessary toll, making climbing difficult.
• A sense of helplessness and despair arises from time to time.

High AQ (166-200) characteristics:
• Able to withstand significant adversity and continue forward and upward progress.
• Maintains appropriate perspective on events and responses to them.

AQ response is comprised of four CORE dimensions. Understanding them is the first step toward improving your response to adversity, expanding your capacity, and, ultimately, increasing your overall AQ.

Now, look at your CORE breakdown and determine which aspects of the AQ you need to improve.

C = Control
To what extent can you influence the situation?
How much control do you perceive you have?
Those with higher AQs perceive they have significantly more control and influence in adverse situations than do those with lower AQs. Even in situations that appear overwhelming or out of their hands, those with higher AQs find some facet of the situation they can influence. Those with lower AQs respond as if they have little or no control and often give up.

O = Ownership
To what extent do you hold yourself responsible for improving this situation?
To what extent are you accountable to play some role in making it better?
Accountability is the backbone of action. Those with higher AQs hold themselves accountable for dealing with situations regardless of their cause. Those with lower AQs deflect accountability and most often feel victimized and helpless.

R = Reach
How far does the fallout of this situation reach into other areas of your work or life?
To what extent does the adversity extend beyond the situation at hand?
Keeping the fallout under control and limiting the reach of adversity is essential for efficient and effective problem solving. Those with higher AQs keep setbacks and challenges in their place, not letting them infest the healthy areas of their work and lives. Those with lower AQs tend to catastrophize, allowing a setback in one area to bleed into other, unrelated areas and become destructive.

E = Endurance
How long will the adversity endure?
Seeing beyond even enormous difficulties is an essential skill for maintaining hope. Those with higher AQs have the uncanny ability to see past the most interminable difficulties and maintain hope and optimism. Those with lower AQs see adversity as dragging on indefinitely, if not permanently.

Note: The average ARP score is 147.5.

Adversity for me is a type of test wherein it evaluates myself on how to deals situations and how I cope up with this kind of situations. As technopreneur adversity quotient test is really a good help for me in order to know how to deal things in times of downfall. It priors on how you deal thing out in what you really feel.

3. Would you take same career path that Steve Jobs took? why or why not?

Brief history

“Before, only those who were loyal to their Apple Computer PCs were aware of whom Steve Jobs was.
Nowadays, nearly everybody knows him thanks to that phenomenon called the iPod.
Steve Jobs and Apple Computer have had a love-hate relationship even ending at one time with Jobs being booted from the firm only to return in 1996 and completely turn the company around and back to profitability.

This achievement definitely merits Steve Jobs to be included in America's greatest business leader list.
Steve Jobs ' Beginnings Steve Jobs was born to a Syrian father and an American mother, who gave him up for adoption immediately after he was born. He was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs of California and spent his 'schooling days' in Cupertino, CA, where he often went to the after-school lectures of the Hewlett-Packard Company. Not surprisingly, he was later hired by HP and worked with Stephen Wozniak.
In 1976, Jobs founded Apple Computer with Wozniak after he saw a computer the latter designed for him. The company's first product was called the Apple I. The next product was aptly called Apple II and it became such a hit that Apple II is credited to be the best selling computer in the 1970s and early 1980s.
In 1984, the firm introduced the Macintosh, which was the first commercially successful computer with a graphical user interface. It was so successful that Apple abandoned further developments on Apple II.”

That is how Steve Jobs triumph goes up and down in the world of business related to technologies. I know that some who saw the Pirates of the Silicon Valley will get jealous and inspired of Steve Jobs attainment in life, and think there are many who want to follow him and one of them is me.
I would also take same career path that Steve Jobs took because of his knowledge he has and how passionate and dedicated he is in what he really loves. But I would also desire to take same career that Bill Gates took, even if Bill Gates doesn’t have same knowledge that Steve Jobs has, but Bill has also the passion and dedication on his work and also the quality of a good technopreneur, because of the manner that he shows even he is successful, he doesn’t changed and the quality of a courageous person, that he really want to compete to others even if it takes tough rivalry to reach it.

I was inspired to take same career with Steve Jobs, for the reasons of the way he handles business and situations and how differently he thinks things out. For him in order to be successful in life is to do what you really love to do or be dedicated and passionate on what is your expertise or what you do. Do your best, be hungry for success and do whatever it takes for you to achieve your dreams and goals. For him to be great successor is not to stick on what you just do instead explore more your knowledge and everything that might help you to gain more success in life. He learns as time passes by, then that’s the time that new development and project comes. Steve also thinks that to be able to reach the success of a technopreneur and businessman is to set your mind-set on your priorities and learn from your mistakes and let it be your inspiration to succeed and learn your weaknesses as a technopreneur. And also to attain the success that you’re dreaming is to trust yourself and your own decisions.

In this time, having the knowledge and intelligence that Steve Jobs have is perfect chance for me to look forward in developing or inventing technologies like he made, or to developing more advance than he can do. But the way he act or treat his employees is not a good thing for me to follow it because the employees is one of the best help that the employer can get in order to lead him to his success, not only him who can benefit of it but also everybody and the company also. And that is what Steve Jobs didn’t realized, because he just stick in mind that his the boss and he has only the right for everything, not knowing that because of the help of them he made it to the top and be counted in the one of the most famous and riches businessman and a technopreneur in the world of businesses.

Not to mention Steve Jobs attitude, Steve can also be considered as a good technopreneur because he has some quality of a good of a technopreneur, just like Bill Gates who is one of the founder of Microsoft and Steve Wozniak who is a co founder of Apple company, Steve’s friend and the main inventor of the Apple Company’s some technologies. Both of them have the qualities of a technopreneur because they both have the intelligence, the attitude, and they can earn money with the help of combining their skills, expertise and the help of technology. Steve also a kind of person that what he thinks must be put into action and be making it perfect as what he thinks of it. However having that kind of attitude really works for him to be a successful businessman for some reasons that, that kind of act or his way managing his career leads him to the point of success and survive from the difficulties that he encounters when he is still developing some technologies in Apple.

As a Technopreneur in the future, I must say that Steve Jobs own kind of handling things out, except for the attitude, really can help me be like him because of the kind of set his mind-set and how he deals with it. Just like when he stills a college student, his mind-set is really set on what he really loves to do and what is really his passion. For me taking same career like Steve Jobs is just like when he is still starting, love what you really love to do and think wide, or let your imaginations put into action because we don’t know, maybe because of that creative imagination that put into action may lead us to the path of success and be like Steve Jobs and bill Gates which is one of the richest Businessman’s in the world and have you own company which is you are the employer and the boss.

2. How do you see your self as a technopreneur?

What is technopreneur?

Technopreneur is an entrepreneur who is technology savvy, creative, innovative, dynamic, dares to be different and take the unexplored path, and very passionate about their work. They take challenges and strive to lead their life with greater success. They don't fear to fail. They take failure as a learning experience, a stimulator to look things differently and stride for next challenge. Technopreneurs continuously go through an organic process of continual improvement and always try to redefine the dynamic digital economy.

Technology and entrepreneurial skills are driving many economies to prosperity. The most famous of them all is, Bill Gates, who makes Microsoft a household name all over the world. Steve Jobs - well known for his innovations. IPod - most carried gadget by young population. Look at the success of Google - brain child of Sergey Brin and Larry Page.

Technopreneurship is, by a large part, still entrepreneurship. The difference is that technopreneurship is either involved in delivering an innovative hi-tech product or makes use of hi-tech in an innovative way to deliver its product to the consumer.

Reference: http://technopreneurship.wordpress.com/2006/11/29/defining-technopreneurship/

For me as a future technopreneur, I can say that there is a possibility that I can be like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates who owns a legendary company and a huge manufacturer of high-tech gadgets in the world of technologies. Being a technopreneur is big attainment for me, because I maybe have the chance to have same status like Bill and Steve in life, be rich, and be counted as one of the legendary businessman.

As a technopreneur, I may be competitive like them, be passionate and hungry for success. Like Steve Jobs, I can be a type of person who set his mind-set on what I really love to do, just like what Steve Job’s rules to success” Do what you really love, and Find your true passion”. With that kind of mind-set that he has, really take him to the top and be successful. And when I really know what I really want to do as a technopreneur, the innovative idea will come out and then will be put into action.

Being a technopreneur is really a crucial stage of being a successful, but with an inventive idea that I have as a technopreneur will bring me straight to success. As a future technopreneur someday, I will do all my best like them, do what should be done and not to waste time for a reason that technopreneur don’t waste time, because for them time is really important and for them every second and minutes counts. Feedbacks is also important to me as a technopreneur, because I may be able to know what is their opinions and comments that might help me learn from my mistakes and make my mistakes to be an inspiration to exert more effort to perfectly meet the needs and wants of my customers.

As a technopreneur, I should know the limitations of my attitude and respects others opinion and suggestions that may help me in my company. Exploring more and learn more things that can help me to pursue my dreams as a technopreneur because that kind of mind-set which really goes for success is really a big help for me, not just for me but also for my employees who truly works for me. And I will let them be inspired of my abilities and kind of mind-set I have to be successful like some of the famous technopreneurs like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates

Having the qualification of being a technopreneur but have a bad mannerism like Steve Jobs might also assent me to fall from success like him because what you did wrong unto to others might be also done to you that more maybe worst than what you have expected. So be humble, and be good to your employees, because a good leader and technopreneur in a company may lead you to the right success even if you might encounter struggles in your company.

I can also see myself as technopreneur that I may have also my own company like the Apple Company and Microsoft Company, or may be also produce high-tech gadgets that might compete with Apple Company and Microsoft Company. Or if maybe not that in kind of industry, but I may also help in other means that needs technology because a technopreneur is not that easily give up for something that he haven’t got especially if it engages technology, because technopreneur makes it a point to stay ahead of the game.

Technopreneur put all they’ve got in order to be successful. Just like me, if I have my own company and counted as one of the riches and renowned businessmen, I will not just stick on what I knowledge I have, but I would rather think more and set my mind set to imagine things beyond the imaginations of everyone. Although it’s beyond imagination, I still I will pursue to do it because technopreneur like me and Steve Jobs don’t give up easily and thinks of another way that may help him to put in action what he really want to do.

But not like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates another way of attaining his dreams is to steal, buy others work and cheat, because even if they successfully develop and put it into action what really they planned, still it’s not really their own creations because some of the applications are just been steal and just been upgraded to be call their own creations. For me as a technopreneur, it is really important to me to attain my dreams in life and be successful in a right way without stealing from anyone work of others because for me, I dedicate my creations and dreams to our Lord for the reasons that he is my source of strength and knowledge that help me in times of struggles and down fall I’ve encountered when I’m still dreaming of it. They got their success not just totally because of their knowledge and expertise but also it’s because of some other way they’ve than for the reasons that they really hungry for success and desperate of getting something that might help them in their problems.
